Hello, I’m Chaz Marler from Pair Of Dice Paradise, and this month, this humble YouTube channel full of board game reviews, news and commentary begins its third season! I’m excited and I’ve really been looking forward to it! One thing I haven’t been looking forward to is launching our fundraiser for Season Three, where I solicit donations in order to keep the series going and growing.
Can’t… wait.
(PUTTING “ZANY SCRIPT” ASIDE) But here we are, so let’s talk about where the channel is, where I’d like it to go from here, and the incentive rewards being offered to those who pledge their support.
I once heard that, in order to succeed, you need to be one of three things: you either have to be first, or the best, or different.
Well, there’s a plethora of other successful board game reviewers that have been producing content for years, if not decades. Heck, they paved the way for Pair Of Dice Paradise and others to be doing what we’re doing. So, I’m never going to be first, but I recognize that I wouldn’t be here at all if they hadn’t laid the foundation to stand on.
As for being the best? (LAUGHTER) As long as others like The Dice Tower, Watch It Played, Rhado Runs Thru, Flip The Table, Drive Thru Review, Crits Happen, Rolling Dice & Taking Names, The Secret Cabal, Board With Life, and countless others, insist on not quitting forever, then the content I create is never going to be the best. But I will have friends who continually raise the bar and set a quality standard that I can strive for.
Which leaves us with different. And this is where, I think, Pair Of Dice Paradise excels. But I also try to include something to think about in every episode I produce; and do it in a unique, engaging and entertaining way.
And it’s an approach that seems to be working.
Some of Pair Of Dice Paradise’s highest rated content this past year includes last spring’s Board Game Decathlon Mockumentary, the Thrift Sift series (which takes a look at bizarre games that I pick up at thrift stores), the weekly Head In The Clouds editorial that appears on The Dice Tower’s Board Game Breakfast show, and maybe even a music video or two.
Pair Of Dice Paradise’s first year was spent discovering the channel’s unique “voice”. Year two was spent refining not only that voice, but also production quality and editing techniques. The goals for year three, which has just begun, is to produce as much, if not more, content (I’d like to get to the point where I can produce two videos a week), invest in some much-needed hardware upgrades, and continue building Pair Of Dice Paradise towards self-sustainability.
You see, Pair Of Dice Paradise isn’t my full time job. The income from it to-date isn’t even equivalent to part time. But I invest myself in it because it’s something I enjoy doing, and I think our viewers enjoy watching it too.
So, that’s why, if you enjoy this channel’s content, please consider making a pledge of support to this channel on our fundraiser page over at PodPledge.com. Every dollar pledged not only helps keep Pair Of Dice Paradise going and improving, but can also earn you one or more “thank you” rewards that we’re working on.
See the fundraiser page for full details, but some of the pledge incentives include having your name listed in video credits, the opportunity to submit a question that I’ll make a video specifically for just to answer it, an invitation to our Exclusive, Members-Only Super Hush-Hush Facebook Group, an embroidered patch featuring the Pair Of Dice Paradise logo, this season’s commemorative coin (which features Russet Taupe on one side, and his signature phrase “Oh Yeah!” on the other), and a full-color game mat which will feature unique artwork designed specifically for this fundraiser.
Thanks to everyone who has either pledged their support for Pair Of Dice Paradise’s third season, or even just continues watching, commenting, and helping spread the word. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to share a kind word about the show.
So, there’s where we are, and where we want to go in the months to come. Thank you for your consideration. I am grateful for the opportunities that this channel, and your support of it, have given me, and I look forward to doing everything I can with it. Take care, and I’ll talk to you again soon.
