GTS Come And Play Day 2014: The Maze Of Games
Events
Another interesting item at GTS was a puzzle adventure book by Mike Selinker of Paizo publishing. The book's pages aren't in the correct order, so, in order to complete the story, you'll need to weave your way through it. But, this isn't a choose your own adventure book, oh-no. Instead, you'll need to solve a series of increasingly difficult puzzles in order to put the story in the right order. It's a story and a series of games all in one.

One of the nice things about the GTS trade show is that publishers were discussing not only up and coming releases, but also older games that may have flown below your radar. Ray Wehrs from Calliope Games took the time to speak with me about one such game, Got 'Em, a deceptively simple and really fun abstract strategy game.

GTS Come And Play Day 2014: Game of Thrones: Westeros Intrigue
Events
When I think of Fantasy Flight, I think of games with colossal mounds of cardboard pieces and lengthy, challenging rulebooks. That's why, when Fantasy Flight introduced me to their recently released Game of Thrones: Westeros Intrigue game, comprised entirely of just a tidy little box of color-coded cards, I was so shocked that I fell off my chair and knocked my head.

Boardgames in Creswell #8: Samurai Sword & Seasons
Events

Unleash your inner samurai at our 8th game day in nearby Creswell!

The "featured game" for this event was: Samurai Sword.

Samurai Sword is based on the game "Bang!", but it's designed to be more dynamic and fast-paced. And, thanks to its new scoring system, there is no player elimination. That means no sitting around for a half-hour waiting for everyone else to finish. Everybody gets to play to the very end!

Boardgames in Creswell #7: Rex, Final Days Of An Empire
Events
It was a great time! Got introduced to two new people, who wasted no time in digging in to tonight's game, which was "Rex: Final Days of an Empire". And that's saying something, because Rex is a pretty heavy game; it's not for the squeamish. The time flew by, and I look forward to my next opportunity to talk and play some games with this group.

This was a great meetup, especially the part where I had the right key and we were actually able to get into the building this time. That was awesome!

Boardgame Day #4 in Creswell
Events
So, how did this event go?

This meetup had a bit of a strange start, when the previously scheduled venue was discovered to be inaccessible. (Mental note: ALWAYS test your key beforehand!)

However, it was such a beautiful day that we simply relocated to a nearby park, and played games in the sunshine.

We welcomed two new attendees to the group over games of "The Resistance: Avalon" and "Revolution!"

I apologize to anyone who came late and missed us. We left a note on the door with info on the change of venue, but I worry that it might have blown away.

For future events at the Community Center, I will test the key when I receive it and update the meetup with a confirmation that it works and that we're good to go.

Hope to see ya'll next time, Sunday, October 20th!

Boardgame Day #3 in Creswell
Events
Our five previous participants attended again, which I'll take as a good sign that everyone enjoyed themselves last time. Everyone seemed to have fun this time as well, and we're all starting to become comfortable enough around each other that there was some playful taunting as we played. In fact, I only rage quit and flipped the table twice this time (down from my usual every-fifteen-minutes), and I think everyone noticed the extra effort I put in to my self control.

All kidding aside, it was a great time. Now I just need to work on getting more gamers to participate!
